robyn scored us some tickets to see smv (stanley clarke, marcus miller and victor wooten) at the house of blues tonight. the basses were thumpin' and the music was bumpin' - everyone took at least one killer solo, including marcus on bass clarinet and stanley on upright.. if you get a chance to see these guys, take it!

you'll have to forgive the quality of the photos, all i could manage this time was my little canon powershot, it was totally covert ops style

after jared poole's refresh boston presentation, a handful of us went to tommy doyle's for some food and drinks. in addition to seeing the presentation, it was a good opportunity for me to meet up with my "internet friends" paul (paul_irish) and vuong (atula), who, even though they're also based in boston, have only been known to me through their contributions to the irc.freenode.net #jquery support channel

and yes, they're exactly as dorky in person as you'd imagine from jquery javascript irc support nerds. which is "very"

robyn got us some up-in-the-stratosphere high garden seats for a celtics game not too long ago. she scored us the tickets, and i.. well, i scored us the beers. i'm pretty terrified of heights, to be honest, but a nice tasty guinness can't hurt

you probably don't think much of that little water pool in the middle.. until you realize that the blue of the water makes an excellent backdrop for many of the flowers in the area. either way, we got a lot of great photos

i don't have the steadiest hands, so trying to get a balanced, well-lit, in-focus shot of the skullcap plant (scutellaria costaricana) with my 105mm lens in manual focus at a working distance of about a foot or so was a super challenge. after about 200 shots (of this one plant), i decided that i'd had enough and moved on

so, this is what it looks like at night. scary huh? think "the eye of sauron" except with a couple of much smaller eyes and maybe without quite so much drama, or even scariness. but maybe still some scariness
